Reporters Notebook: What's Happening in Lawrence

On this page, we will attempt to keep track of what's going on in Lawrence Township as it happens.

The following are notes of flooding, trees down and other hurricane-related events reportedly taking place in Lawrence Township, based upon police and fire radio transmissions. We will try to update this page as often as possible during the storm.

6:00 a.m. Sun. - Since about 4:30 a.m. volunteer firefighters have rescued over 70 people, including infants, from flooded homes in the 2100 block of Princeton Pike and the Westgate apartment complex. Rescues are still being made at this time. Evacuees are being bused to the gym at Rider University

3:07 a.m. Sun. - Police on scene with an electrical transformer on fire at Carter Road and Carson Road. Firefighters have been dispatched.

2:35 a.m. Sun. - Police are in the process of shutting down Route 1 South in the area of Interstate 95 due to severe flooding.

2:06 a.m. Sun. - Police investigating a report of a tree down across Basin Road near the township border with Hamilton Township.

1:52 a.m. Sun. - Volunteer firefighters and police on scene with a fallen power line that is sparking. Wires were pulled down by a fallen tree.

1:45 a.m. Sun. - Water rescue team from Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Co. dispatched mutual aid to Hopewell Township at Route 518 and Route 31 to help rescue people trapped by flood waters.

1:30 a.m. Sun. - Volunteer firefighters dispatched to aid an elderly resident from a house in the 100 block of Franklin Corner Road surrounded by rising flood waters. Resident was brought to safety.

1:14 a.m. Sun. - Volunteer firefighters used a boat to remove two elderly residents from a home on Stonicker Drive. Water was about two feet deep inside their residence.

12:49 a.m. Sun. - Police reporting a tree down partially in the roadway at Brunswick Pike near Maplewood Avenue.

12:33 a.m. Sun. - Large tree down on Pin Oak Drive.

12:25 a.m. Sun. - Volunteer firefighters rescued the driver of a car disabled in rising flood waters on Cold Soil Road near Quince Court.

12:14 a.m. Sun. - Police officer dispatched to Lawrence Square Village to investigate a report that two people are swimming in the pool there. People were gone from the scene upon the officer's arrival.

12:13 a.m. Sun. - Police officer on scene reports large tree down blocking the road at Lawrenceville-Pennington Road and Monroe Street.  

12:12 a.m. Sun. - Police officer reports tree down on wires on Pin Oak Drive.

12:03 a.m. Sun. - Volunteer firefighters responding with boats to the area of 180 Franklin Corner Rd. for a reported person trapped in a vehicle that is disabled in flood waters. (Update, 12:14 a.m. - The occupant of the vehicle has been removed to safety by firefighters).

11:58 p.m. Sat. - Police officer advised that Denow Road is impassable due to flooding near Melvina Drive.

11:56 p.m. Sat. - Severe flooding reported on Lawrenceville-Pennington Road.

11:49 p.m. Sat. - Police officer reports flooding on Bergen Street.

11:40 p.m. Sat. – Firefighters responding to a fire alarm activation at Slackwood Presbyterian Church. Found to be an alarm system malfunction.

11:39 p.m. Sat – Tree reported to be down in area of 265 Glenn Ave.

11:37 p.m. Sat. – Police officer reporting part of Allen Lane is flooded and a tree is down and partially in the roadway on Clementon Way.

11:35 p.m. Sat. – Police officer reporting part of Franklin Corner Road is flooded.

11:31 p.m. Sat. – Firefighters dispatched to Gedney Road for a tree down in the driveway of a home.

11:28 p.m. Sat. – Police responding to reports of a burglar alarm at the PNC Bank on Brunswick Pike, with reports of a tree down in that area.

11:26 p.m. Sat. – Police officer reporting Route 206 is completely impassable due to a large tree down in the roadway at Carter Road.

11:23 p.m. Sat. – Princeton Pike is undergoing severe flooding in the area of the Shabakunk Creek and the rear of Lawrence Shopping Center. Water is rising so fast barricades are starting to float away, according to police officers on the scene.

11:21 p.m. Sat. – Tree is down across part of the Trenton Freeway (Route 1), rendering the road impassable. Police are trying to detour motorists.

11:20 p.m. Sat. – Firefighters responded to a report of sparking wires at Lake Drive and Polk Avenue.

11:19 p.m. Sat. – Motor vehicle accident reported, no injuries, in area of Route 1 and Quakerbridge Road.

11:18 p.m. Sat. – Large tree and wires down on West Long Drive. Road impassable.

11:16 p.m. Sat. – Police on scene reporting large tree down in the middle of Route 206 near Roxboro Road.

11:14 p.m. Sat. – Tree fell and took down wires on Shelmet Lane.

11:14 p.m. Sat. – Large tree has fallen and is blocking Princeton Pike near Chapin School.

11:12 p.m. Sat. – Large tree reported to be down on Carter Road between Cold Soil Road and Princeton Pike.

10:57 p.m. Sat. ­– Police on scene reporting tree fell on top of an unoccupied car.
