Police Surround Home After Burglary Reported

Lawrence Township police, armed with machine guns, searched a house on Crabapple Lane Tuesday after a resident discovered her home had been broken into. Police found the house empty and the burglar gone.

A residential burglary that took place Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 24) on Crabapple Lane, near Pine Knoll Drive, is under investigation, Lawrence Township police confirmed.

Police said a resident called 911 at 3:06 p.m. after she returned home, after being away about an hour, and discovered the break-in.

A freelance photographer who was at the scene and took the photos seen above said numerous township police officers, both uniformed and in plain clothes, responded.

Apparently unsure if the burglar was still inside the residence, the officers quickly set up a perimeter around the house. At least two officers was seen armed with machine guns, another carried a ballistic shield, and another was accompanied by a police dog.

A search of the home was made and ultimately found to be empty.

Police activity was still underway during the 3:20 p.m. dismissal of students from Ben Franklin Elementary School located about a block away.

The photographer credited police with taking get care to keep the public a safe distance away and make sure no children walking home from school accidentally wandered into harm’s way.

Additional details about the burglary were not available Tuesday night, and police said the crime remains under investigation by Officer Lauren Laux and detectives.
