Police Blotter: Police Charge Alleged Driver Who Fled Crash Scene, Leaving Passenger Trapped in Wreck

Lawrence Township police are also investigating a burglary at the Steward's Crossing apartment complex.

Accident

Lawrence Township police have charged Steven Hall, a 41-year-old resident of Lindenwold, with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury, as well as numerous motor vehicle violations, in connection with a one-vehicle crash that occurred during the early-morning of Dec. 24, 2011.

Police allege Hill was the driver of a Pontiac Grand Am that slammed into a tree on Lawrence Road (Route 206) near Concord Avenue about 4:30 a.m. and that Hill fled the accident scene, leaving his passenger trapped in the wreckage.

The passenger, 38-year-old Henry Tripp of Trenton, was badly hurt and, after finally being extricated from the wreckage at abput 5:10 a.m. by township volunteer firefighters, was rushed by ambulance into surgery at the trauma unit at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

Tripp survived the wreck, though he requires a walker to get around and is undergoing physical therapy, according to a family member.

Detective Robert Potter and Officer Shaun Sexton investigated the crash. They identified Hill as the suspected driver and charged him last week, police said.

Burglary

Lawrence Township police are investigating a burglary at a residence on Bramble Court in the Steward’s Crossing apartment complex located off Bunker Hill Road.

Police said a 27-year-old female resident called 911 at 4:38 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, after she returned home from work and found her apartment door slightly ajar and her possessions inside “rummaged through.”

A 32-inch television – valued at about $400 – appeared to be the only thing stolen, police said, adding that it the burglar likely gained entry to the apartment by way of a rear window.

The break-in was believed to have taken place sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. that day, police said.

Investigation       

Lawrence Township police are investigating an incident that allegedly took place in the Heritage Village apartment building at 1970 Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1).

Police said they received a call about 3:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, from a woman who reported that her apartment had been broken into and she had been assaulted by a man.

Police detained a suspect at the scene for questioning and are continuing to investigate the woman’s allegations, in consultation with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
