Police Blotter: 'Suspicious' Auto Complaint Yields DUI Arrest

Here's a roundup of notable police activity in Lawrence Township from May 23 through May 30.

 

Driving Under the Influence

Justin Kramer, a 22-year-old Lawrence Township resident, was arrested about 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 27, and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and careless driving after he allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests, according to Lawrence Township Police Department spokesman Lt. Mark Ubry.

He said the arrest was made by Officer Erini Papafilipakis after she was sent to investigate a complaint about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Lucky 7 delicatessen at the corner of Lawrence Road (Route 206) and Princeton Avenue.

Theft

A GPS unit and an iPod worth a total of $300 were stolen from a GMC Envoy while it was parked at the Meadow Woods apartment complex in the 400 block of Lawrence Road (Route 206) sometime overnight. The vehicle’s owner, a 26-year-old woman, called police at 7:01 a.m. on Friday, May 25, to report the crime after finding a passenger’s side window shattered, according to Ubry. Officer Hector Nieves was assigned the investigation.

Theft

At 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25, a 47-year-old staff member at Lawrenceville School reported to police that two mountain bicycles – one a man’s, the other a woman’s – worth a total of $1,500 had been stolen from outside the McPherson dormitory on the private school’s campus, Ubry said. Officer Shaun Sexton is investigating.

Theft

A resident of Devon Avenue called police at 2:29 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, to report that sometime within the previous 24 hours someone had stolen two DVD players – worth a total of $140 – from the headrests of his Toyota Sienna minivan, Ubry said. Nothing else was missing from the vehicle. Ubry said the owner was unsure if he had locked the vehicle and there was no evidence of forced entry found. Officer Shawn Sudol is investigating.

Theft

At 2:31 p.m. Sunday, May 27, a 22-year-old woman from Trenton reported to police that her wallet was lost or stolen while she was shopping at Quaker Bridge Mall, Ubry said, adding that the woman cancelled her credit cards as soon as she realized her wallet was missing. Officer Robert Loveless was assigned the investigation.

Theft

Officer Richard Laird III is investigating the theft of a 75-foot-long garden hose that was taken from the side of a house on Lakedale Drive sometime between the evening of Saturday, May 26, and the afternoon of Sunday, May 27, Ubry said.

Theft

A 50-year-old woman from Trenton called police at 5:47 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, to report that her purse was either lost or stolen while she was at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car business in the 3200 block of Brunswick Pike (Route 1), Ubry said.

He said some credit cards that had been in the woman’s purse were later found along the side of the road on Vetterlein Avenue in Hamilton Township by a resident of that neighborhood and turned over to Hamilton Township police who, in turn, alerted Lawrence police. Lawrence Township Officer Robert Loveless went out to Vetterlein Avenue and was able to find five more of the woman’s credit cards in the street. The purse itself and the other items it contained were not located.

Recovered Property

At 2:04 p.m. on Friday, May 25, a man called police to report that while walking with his grandson along the 5 Mile Run creek at the end of Glenn Avenue he had found a small black purse. The purse, which the man handed over to police, was later identified as having been stolen in West Windsor Township back in February, Ubry said.

Criminal Mischief

A resident of Winthrop Road called police at 10:06 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, to report that sometime overnight someone had broken off one of the mirrors from her Ford Mustang while it was parked in her driveway, Ubry said. He said Officer Lauren Laux is investigating.

Criminal Mischief

At 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, Officer Chris Schuster was sent to the Mercer Mall in the 3200 block of Brunswick Pike (Route 1) to investigate an act of criminal mischief in which someone had left a long scratch down the side of a Toyota while the vehicle’s owner was at work in the Petco pet store, Ubry said.
