Police Blotter: Burglaries, Drugs and DUIs...

Here's a roundup of notable police activity in Lawrence Township from Nov. 16 through Nov. 29.

Driving Under the Influence

Vladimir Davydenkov, 49, of Holland, Pa., was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after the 1999 Ford van he was driving collided with another vehicle in the 1600 block of Princeton Avenue about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, according to Lt. Charles Edgar, spokesman for Lawrence Township Police Department.

Davydenkov allegedly smelled of alcohol when he was approached at the crash scene by officers, Edgar said. He said Davydenkov was taken into custody after he performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence, assault by auto and related offenses.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, 24-year-old Ashley Ortiz of Drift Avenue in Lawrence Township, suffered minor injuries and was examined at the scene by emergency medical personnel, Edgar said.

Burglary

An estimated $2,200 worth of property, including assorted jewelry, was stolen from a house on Lakedale Drive that was burglarized on Monday, Nov. 28, Edgar said.

A 59-year-old resident called police at 4:32 p.m. after he arrived home and discovered that his side door had been forced open and the interior of the residence ransacked, Edgar said. He said the burglary was believed to have taken place sometime between 8:30 that morning and about 4:15 p.m.

Burglary

About $2,400 worth of copper wire and a saw valued at $250 were stolen from a construction trailer on the grounds of the former Colonial Lanes bowling alley, which is in the process of being remodeled into the new which will feature a restaurant and sports bar, laser tag arena, bowling lanes, billiards, and more.

Edgar said a lock was cut off the trailer sometime between 6 p.m. on Nov. 26 and about 10 a.m. on Nov. 28 at the site in the 2400 block of Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1). The stolen property belonged to a construction company from Flanders in Morris County. The burglary was reported to police at 11:09 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.

It is the third such burglary at the property in two months. Similar crimes were reported on and .

Burglary

A 52-year-old resident of Johnson Road called police at 1:07 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, to report that someone had entered her unlocked shed and stolen two bicycles sometime between 1 p.m. on Nov. 24 and about 11 a.m. that morning, Edgar said. He said a red bicycle – possibly discarded by the burglar – was found abandoned across the street.

Burglary

Three snowblowers – two worth about $1,800 and the other valued at $2,800 – were stolen from a storage container at the Princeton Pike Office Park at 3131 Princeton Pike sometime between Oct. 30 and Nov. 23, Edgar said.

He said the snowblowers’ owner, a contractor from Southampton, Pa., reported the crime at 11:27 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, after he discovered that the lock on the storage unit had been tampered with and the snowblowers stolen.

Attempted Burglary

At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, a 56-year-old resident called police report a possible attempted burglary at a residence in the 200 block of Eldridge Avenue.

Edgar said someone broke a side window on the home’s garage sometime between 4 p.m. on Nov. 24 and about 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 27. It did not appear that anyone entered the residence and nothing appeared to be missing, he said.

Attempted Burglary

A 55-year-old resident of Newberry Avenue called police at 8:56 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, to report a possible break-in attempt at her residence. The woman told police she heard a loud “bang” and discovered that the glass pane had been removed from her storm door and either fell or was left between the storm door and the home’s main door, Edgar said.

He said no entry was made to the residence and nothing was stolen.

Drug Arrests

Two 16-year-old Lawrence Township boys were charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia about 8:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, Edgar said.

He said police officers, sent to investigate a complaint about two juveniles “hanging out” near a vacant building in the 4000 block of Quakerbridge Road, allegedly smelled an odor of burnt marijuana when they approached the pair.

He said officers took the teenagers into custody after allegedly discovering drug paraphernalia in their possession. A subsequent search revealed the juveniles had marijuana on them, he said.

Driving Under the Influence

Truc T. Hoang, 39, of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after the 2009 Honda Civic he was driving crashed into the center median along the southbound side of the Trenton Freeway (Route 1) near Whitehead Road about 1 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24, Edgar said.

Witnesses told police the Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed and in an “erratic” manner just prior to the crash, Edgar said.

He said Hoang allegedly smelled of alcohol when police reached the scene. Hoang was taken into custody after he performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and failing to maintain a lane, he said.

Drug Arrest

Blair J. Capriotti Jr., 20, of Hillsborough was arrested about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia, Edgar said.

He said Lawrence Township police received a call from off-duty Princeton Township Detective Ben Gering who, while riding his mountain bike in the area of the abandoned bridge where Province Line Road dead ends at the Stony Brook, allegedly spotted Capriotti rolling a marijuana cigarette.

Capriotti was detained by Gering until Lawrence officers arrived on the scene, Edgar said.
