Police Blotter: Afterhours Park Visitors Charged with Drug Possession, Police Probe Diamong Ring Theft...

Here's a roundup of notable police activity in Lawrence Township from Dec. 28 through Jan. 9.

Drug Arrests

Two people were arrested after they were allegedly found with marijuana in Lawrence Township’s early Friday, Jan. 6, according to Lawrence Township police spokesman Lt. Charles Edgar.

He said police received a complaint about 12:10 a.m. about a vehicle that had been seen entering the park off Oaklyn Terrace. It is against township ordinance to be in the park after dark, he said.

Officers located the vehicle in the park. While questioning the vehicle’s two occupants about what they were doing in the park afterhours and informing them of the ordinance, Officer Sean Kerins discovered the two allegedly had a small amount of marijuana on them, Edgar said.

He said Chayanne K. Tweh, 21, of White Oak Way in Ewing Township, and Danielle S. White, 22, of the 1900 block of Fox Run Drive in Plainsboro Township, were each charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.

Tweh was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found with a grinder and a glass pipe of the kind commonly used to smoke marijuana, Edgar said. He said Tweh was uncooperative with officers and was also charged with resisting arrest.

Sex Offense

Officer Michael Whitmore is investigation an incident that allegedly took place in the parking lot of the gas station and convenience store near Brunswick Circle Extension and Princeton Avenue on Monday, Jan. 9.

Police received a call at 12:23 p.m. from a 39-year-old Trenton woman who alleged she had just observed a man “rubbing himself” in what appeared to be a sexual way over his pants, Edgar said. He said the man, seated in a car parked next to the woman’s vehicle, remained clothed and did not expose himself.

Edgar said Whitmore is working to identify the man, who the woman described as being 40 to 50 years old.

Weapon Offense

At 6:02 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, a 54-year-old Hamilton Township man called Lawrence Township police to report that he had just been threatened by another man wielding a baseball bat at the in the 3000 block of Brunswick Pike (Route 1), Edgar said.

He said the victim told police he was confronted by the other man at the motel as part of a dispute over a woman and that during their argument the other man pulled out the bat and “threatened to use it against him.” The victim fled the motel and was not injured.

Officer Shaun Sexton is investigating the man’s allegations, Edgar said.

Theft

A 26-year-old resident of the 200 block of Glenn Avenue called police at 11:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and reported that a gold and diamond ring worth $5,000 had been stolen from her home at some time within the previous week, Edgar said. He said police found no evidence of forced entry to the residence. Officer Michael Whitmore is investigating.

Fraud

Staff at the Bed Bath & Beyond store at Mercer Mall in the 3300 block of Brunswick Pike (Route 1) called police at 5:49 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, to report that they had just confiscated a counterfeit $100 bill that a customer had tried to use to buy merchandise, Edgar said. He said the man fled the store when a cashier became suspicious about the bill.

A review of other transactions at the store revealed another counterfeit $100 bill that had been successfully passed by the same man at some point earlier in the day, Edgar said, noting that Officer Kelly Longo was assigned the investigation

Theft

An administrator at the called police at 12:29 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, to report that a laptop computer valued at $900 had been stolen off a desk between 11 and 11:45 that morning, Edgar said. Officer Shawn Sudol is investigating.

The private, non-profit school for students with language-based learning disabilities like dyslexia is located in the 1900 block of Lawrence Road (Route 206) in a building behind Adath Israel Congregation.

Theft

A homemade two-wheeled landscaping trailer was stolen from the front of a residence on Mabel Avenue sometime between 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, and about 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, Edgar said. He said the trailer’s 43-year-old owner reported the theft on Jan. 9 and estimated the value of the stolen trailer to be about $125.

Theft

At 7:11 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, a 65-year-old resident of Hamilton Court contacted police to report that on Dec. 1 she gave a $520 deposit to a plumbing contractor to replace some toilets and sinks in her home and that he never returned to do the work, Edgar said. He said Officer Chris Stylianou documented the woman’s allegations and advised her how to go about filing a formal complaint against the contractor.

Theft

The theft of about $3,500 worth of silver flatware was reported to police by a 78-year-old resident of Woodmont Drive at 2:21 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, Edgar said. He said the woman told police she believed the silver was stolen from her home sometime between Nov. 28 and Dec. 18.

No evidence of forced entry was found to the home, Edgar said. He said Officer Chris Stylianou is investigating.

Criminal Mischief

Officer Mark Harmon is investigating an act of criminal mischief in which someone smashed out a driver’s side window on a 2003 Honda Civic belonging to a 49-year-old resident of Fountayne Lane, Edgar said. He said the crime, which was reported to police at 7:04 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, was believed to have occurred sometime between midnight and 7 o’clock that morning. Damage was estimated at about $400.

Theft

A 33-year-old woman who is temporarily leaving at the motel called police at 5:48 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, to report that several personal documents – including her birth certificate, social security card, and high school diploma – had been stolen, Edgar said. He said the woman told police the items had been in a folder in a suitcase in her room at the motel at 2995 Brunswick Pike (Route 1). Officer Daniel Gladney is investigating.

Criminal Mischief

At 4:27 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, police were notified that someone had spray-painted a stop sign at the corner of Princeton and Lanning avenues, Edgar said. He said police took photographs of the spray-painted sign and Officer Shaun Sexton is investigating if the graffiti is in any way gang-related.

Theft

Officer Andres Mejia is investigating the theft of about $920 in oak trim and other building materials from a house in the 700 block of Lawrence Road (Route 206) that is in the process of being renovated, Edgar said. He said Mejia is also working to locate a suspect in that theft – a “handyman” who allegedly failed to return to the job site after he was given $435 to pick up additional building materials.
