A man and woman who allegedly struck an elderly pedestrian with their getaway car as they fled a shoplifting at Quaker Bridge Mall earlier this month are now in custody, Lawrence Township police spokesman Lt. Mark Ubry confirmed.

According to Ubry, it was about 7:40 p.m. on Jan. 11 when a woman ran out of the Macy’s department store at the mall on Route 1 carrying about $150 worth of stolen clothing and, before pursuing store loss prevention officials could catch up to her, jumped into a vehicle driven by a male accomplice.

As they sped away, their car hit a 78-year-old Hopewell resident walking near the Cheesecake Factory restaurant, he said, noting that elderly man suffered a leg injury and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Ubry said an investigation by Officer Marc Poveromo and Detective Robert Potter led to the identification of two suspects in the crime – Latoya D. Snell, 30, of Race Street, Trenton, and Anthony L. Woods, 31, of the 500 block of West State Street, Trenton – and warrants were issued for their arrest.

Snell was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service’s New York-New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force on Jan. 18 and charged with robbery and theft, Ubry said.
