Photo/Video Gallery: Rescuers Cut Roof Away to Free Woman From Wreck in Lawrence Township

Accident on Interstate 95 caused traffic backups in both directions Friday morning.

Lawrence Township firefighters this morning (Friday, Sept. 23) had to remove the windshield and cut away the roof to free a woman who was trapped in the driver’s seat of a Nissan Sentra that was involved in a collision along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in the area of Exit 8 (Princeton Pike).

The accident, which occurred about 9:15 a.m. resulted in significant traffic backups on both sides of I-95.

The accident remains under investigation at this time by New Jersey State Police. One man appeared to have been arrested at the scene and was observed being handcuffed and placed into the rear of a police car.

The accident appeared to have involved three vehicles – the woman’s Nissan, a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer and a Ford van.

Damage was visible to the rear of the Nissan, the front of the pickup, the rear of the trailer, and the front and driver’s side of the van.

Responding to the crash with state police and a Lawrence Township Emergency Medical Service ambulance crew were Lawrence Township’s daytime duty crew of career firefighters and volunteer firefighters from the Lawrenceville, Slackwood and Lawrence Road fire companies.

After firefighters cut away the roof, the female driver was removed from the wrecked Nissan, transferred to an ambulance and rushed to a local hospital. The extent of her injuries was not immediately known.
