Over $10,000 in Jewelry Stolen from Lawrence Home

Break-in on Port Mercer Road is the latest burglary to occur in the Yorkshire Village development.

About $10,000 worth of jewelry was stolen over the weekend during another residential burglary in the Yorkshire Village development behind Mercer Mall, according to Lawrence Township police.

Residents of the house on Port Mercer Road called 911 at 1:47 a.m. on Saturday (July 2) after they returned home to find that someone had forced open their rear sliding-glass door, said Lt. Charles Edgar, police department spokesman.

The house had been ransacked and the jewelry stolen, he said, noting that the family had been out since about 5 p.m. Friday.

Detective Kevin Reading Jr. is investigating the crime. As part of his investigation, Edgar said, Reading will be looking to see if there are any connections between the break-in and other recent crimes in the Yorkshire Village development:

  • On June 6, a woman scared off a man who police believe was
  • On May 23, a resident of Canal View Drive called police to report that someone had shattered the sliding-glass door at the rear of his residence and
  • On May 22, a resident of Yorkshire Village Road reported a break-in at his home and
  • On May 11,
