Multiple Vehicle Break-Ins Under Investigation by Police

Thefts

Police are investigating several vehicle break-ins that occurred in the same area all on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Lawrence Township Police Department spokesman Lt. Mark Ubry provided the following details of the crimes:

• Between 6 and 7:50 p.m., someone broke a window on the driver’s side of a Nissan Rogue while it was parked outside Gold’s Gym in the 4100 block of Quakerbridge Road; the owner, a Lawrence Township resident, did not believe that anything was stolen.
• Between 7 and 7:52 p.m., someone broke the front passenger’s side window of a Trenton resident’s 2006 Lexus while the vehicle was parked near the Sears department store at Quaker Bridge Mall; the interior of the vehicle was rummaged through but nothing was stolen.
• Between 6:35 p.m. and 8:13 p.m., someone broke the front driver’s side window of a 2003 Ford sport utility vehicle while it was parked outside the K.C. Prime restaurant in the 4100 block of Quakerbridge Road; the owner, a Hamilton Township resident, reported that more than $1,600 worth of property was stolen, including a stereo, GPS unit, Kindle reader, a Vera Bradley handbag, and more than 10 school textbooks.
• Between 10 a.m. and 9:20 p.m., a Trenton resident’s Toyota Tacoma had a portable CD player valued at $100 stolen while the vehicle was parked outside the K.C. Prime restaurant; the rear driver’s side window had been shattered.

Thefts / Criminal Mischief

Twelve vehicles belonging to customers each had either a driver’s side window or a passenger’s side window broken out while they were parked in the fenced-in lot of AAMCO Transmissions in the 1700 block of Princeton Avenue between 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, and 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, Ubry said.

The vehicles had been “rummaged through,” he said, but a detailed list of what was stolen was not immediately available. He said the thief gained entry to the lot by cutting a hole in the fence.

Thefts

The owner of a 1998 Mustang called police at 1:52 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, to report that someone stole a $500 amplifier and some paperwork from the vehicle sometime between 4 p.m. on Feb. 8 and the afternoon of Feb. 12 while it was parked outside a business in the 900 block of Spruce Street, Urby said, noting that the vehicle had been left unlocked.

The same vehicle was broken into a second time just days later. At 11:46 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, the owner reported that just before 6 p.m. the previous evening someone smashed out his Mustang’s passenger’s side window and stole a radio worth $180 while the vehicle was parked outside the same business on Spruce Street, according to Ubry.

Theft

At 10:22 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, police were notified that a Honda Accord belonging to a Pompton Plains resident had been broken into between 3:45 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. that day while it was parked outside the Red Lobster restaurant in the 3200 block of Brunswick Pike (Route 1), Ubry said. The vehicle’s passenger’s side front window and had been shattered and about $400 worth of property – including an Apple iTouch, Garmin GPS and a Mets cap – stolen, he said.
