Multiple Appliances Allegedly Stolen from Vacant Yorkshire Village Units

Lawrence Township Police are investigating the theft of $5,500 worth of appliances stolen from three apartments at Yorkshire Village. 

The thefts were discovered on Thursday, Nov. 7. 

According to police, a maintenance worker was walking to work at the complex in the morning when he passed an alarm going off at an empty apartment on Hawk Road. Inside, he found the rear sliding glass door unlocked and a smelled a strong odor of gas, which had set off the alarm. The kitchen stove was missing and the main gas line was turned on. The employee turned off the gas and found the apartment's front door had been forced open. In all, four GE stainless steel appliances were gone: the refrigerator, gas stove/oven, dishwasher and microwave. The total loss is estimated at $2,600 and the theft is believed to have taken place sometime since Aug. 1.

The maintenance worker began checking other apartments. Next door to the first theft, the same set of appliances- valued at $2,600 and still in boxes waiting to be installed- were found missing. The sliding glass door was open. 

Later in the day, workers found a door to an apartment on Yorkshire Village Road had been forced open and a $300 white microwave stolen. The apartment was recently vacant.
