Update: Minor Injuries Reported in School Bus Crash

Two students from Slackwood Elementary School complained of minor injuries following the Thursday morning collision between their school bus and a sport utility vehilce in Lawrence Township.

Update, 12:15 p.m. June 14:

Two students suffered minor injuries when, while on their way to , their school bus was rear-ended by a sport utility vehicle this morning (Thursday, June 14), according to Lawrence Township police.

The collision was reported at 7:51 a.m. Township police spokesman Lt. Mark Ubry said the bus was in the process of making a right turn onto Slack Avenue from the southbound side of Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1) when it was struck from behind by the Ford Expedition. The school bus had the green light at the intersection, he said.

Thirty-one Slackwood Elementary School students were riding on the bus, which was being driven by Timothy Young, 50, of Ewing Township, Ubry said, noting that the bus is owned by George Dapper Inc.  

Two students complained of pain following the collision and were examined by emergency medical personnel and a nurse who responded to the scene from Slackwood school, Ubry said. Neither student required transport to a hospital.

The sport utility’s driver, Andrew Paden, 29, of West Windsor Township, also complained of pain and was treated at the scene, Ubry said. Paden also declined a ride to a hospital, he said.

Officer Chris DiMeglio investigated the accident and issued Paden tickets for careless driving and failing to wear a seat belt, according to Ubry.

“Shortly before 8 a.m. this morning, a vehicle rear-ended our SL5 bus as it was going south on Brunswick Pike and turning right onto Slack Avenue. Jay Billy, Slackwood principal; Joanne McMichael, Slackwood nurse; Tom Eldridge, business administrator; and Andrew Zuckerman, director of instructional services, responded to the scene as well as the Lawrence police. 

“Parents of all students on the bus were notified and advised to take their child to their doctor if the child complains of pain or if the parent would like their child to be checked out by their own physician.   Two Slackwood parents picked up their students from school.”

A collision between a school bus and a sport utility vehicle that occurred this morning (Thursday, June 14) is currently under investigation by Lawrence Township police.

The school bus was filled with students who attend Slackwood Elementary School, according to police.

Two students complained of minor injuries following the collision and were checked out by emergency medical personnel and a school nurse who responded to the scene, police said.

The accident near the corner of Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1) and Slack Avenue was reported at 7:51 a.m.
