Lawrence Firefighters Respond to Ewing House Fire

No injuries were reported in the Labor Day weekend fire on Wiscasset Avenue in Ewing.

A crew of volunteer firefighters from Lawrence Township's Lawrence Road Fire Co. responded into Ewing Township to help out at the scene of a house fire on Wiscasset Avenue this afternoon (Sunday, Sept. 4).

The blaze was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. Residents were not home at the time, but a pet dog was rescued from the burning home.

Extensive fire damage was done to the rear of the house and the kitchen area before the flames were extinguished. Other parts of the residence sustained smoke and water damage.

All three Ewing Township volunteer fire companies - West Trenton, Pennington Road and Prospect Heights - battled the blaze.

West Trenton Fire Co. Chief Ralf Brandmaier said investigators determined the fire started at the rear of the house on the exterior where residents had dumped smoldering coals from a food smoker into a trash container the night before.
