Lawrence Fire Crews Called to Blaze in Ewing Township

Volunteer firefighters from Lawrence Township responded into Ewing Township Sunday morning (July 22) to help battle a house fire on Braeburn Drive.

The blaze was reported at 11:33 a.m.

When the first Ewing Township police officers and firefighters arrived, smoke was visible from the second floor of the home, located on one end of a row of four attached dwellings.

The home’s residents, having discovered the blaze in a second-floor bedroom, had already fled to safety outside and were trying to spray water from a garden hose onto the second floor, officials at the scene said.

Working under the direction of Pennington Road Fire Co. Chief John Conti, crews from all three Ewing Township volunteer fire companies – Pennington Road, Prospect Heights and West Trenton – fought the blaze, with the assistance of the Lawrence Road and Lawrenceville volunteer fire companies from Lawrence Township.

The blaze was contained to the second-floor room where it started thanks, in part, to the residents closing the bedroom door as they fled. That, officials said, helped slow the fire’s growth by limiting its supply of oxygen.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire, which officials said was electrical in nature, was investigated by Ewing Township police and fire officials and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
