Home Burglaries on Hazelhurst Ave. Under Investigation

Lawrence Township police believe the two houses, located just doors apart, were burglarized between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on March 21.

Two residential burglaries that took place last week just doors apart in the 100 block of Hazelhurst Avenue remain under investigation by Lawrence Township detectives.

In the first crime, a 51-year-old woman called township police at 7:26 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, to report that she had just realized that someone had entered her home and stolen about $60 worth of loose change from two bedrooms, according to police department spokesman Lt. Charles Edgar.

He said the woman told police she believed the crime happened sometime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. that day. He said police are still investigating how the burglar gained entry to the home but it is possible the front door had been left unlocked.

The second burglary was reported at 8:45 p.m. March 21 when a 36-year-old man notified police that after returning home he discovered that about $130 in cash and loose change had been stolen from the residence, Edgar said.

He said that crime was believed to have occurred during the same time frame as the other break-in that day and, similarly, an unlocked door may have been how the burglary gained entry to the home.
