Four Alleged Drunk Drivers Arrested in Week's Time

One of the suspects was taken into custody after the van he was driving crashed into three parked vehicles on Princeton Pike, according to Lawrence Township police.

Four alleged drunk drivers were arrested by Lawrence Township police in a week’s time, with the most recent arrest taking place early yesterday, Wednesday, March 28, according to information released by police spokesman Lt. Charles Edgar.

About 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, a 45-year-old Trenton resident named Chris Bobwik was arrested after the 2005 Chevrolet van he was driving crashed into three vehicles that were parked along the side of the road on Princeton Pike near Slack Avenue, Edgar said.

Bobwik was charged with multiple offenses, including driving under the influence, DUI in a school zone, reckless driving, and criminal assault by auto, Edgar said, explaining that the assault charge was filed because a passenger in the van suffered some injuries during the crash.

That passenger, a 51-year-old Trenton man, happened to be the owner of the van and was himself issued tickets for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate his vehicle, failure to register his vehicle, possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and not wearing a seat belt, according to Edgar.

Ricky Sahrun, a 23-year-old resident of Tudor Lane in Lawrence Township, was arrested at 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, improper stopping and obstructing traffic, Edgar said.

He said Officer Erini Papafilipakis was on patrol when she spotted Sahrun’s 2003 Acura stopped in the middle of the road at the entrance to the Tiffany Woods development off Spruce Street, with Sahrun standing outside the vehicle.

When Papafilipakis stopped to see if Sahrun needed any assistance, she allegedly smelled an odor of alcohol on his breath and noticed that he was possibly intoxicated, Edgar said. He said Sahrun was taken into custody after he performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

Just after 11:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, police received a complaint from a concerned motorist who reported that she was traveling behind a 1999 Chevrolet that was allegedly being driven in an “erratic” manner northbound on Lawrence Road (Route 206), south of Interstate 95, Edgar said.

He said officers located the Chevrolet and attempted to pull it over, however its driver did not come to an immediate stop. The driver, later identified as Tonna M. Smalls, 41, of the 600 block of West State Street, Trenton, allegedly continued north on Route 206 and then finally stopped for police in the area of Landfall Lane, not far from Province Line Road, he said.

Smalls’ breath allegedly smelled of alcohol and she appeared “drowsy” when officers approached her, Edgar said. He said she was arrested after she performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence, DUI in a school zone, reckless driving, and failure to maintain a lane.

Edgar said Delabreauscuizzis allegedly smelled of alcohol and, after failing field sobriety tests, was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane.
