Driver Killed in Crash on Interstate 295 in Lawrence

The car left the southbound lanes of Interstate 295, south of the Route 1 exits, and slammed into several trees about 8:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30.

A young man was killed when the car he was driving crashed along Interstate 295 in Lawrence Township Friday evening, Dec. 30.

The accident happened about 8:10 p.m. along the southbound side of I-295 near milepost 67, just south of the exits for Route 1.

The car, which appeared to have struck at least three trees, had significant damage to its driver’s side. According to police and emergency officials, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation by the New Jersey State Police.

Assisting troopers at the scene were Lawrence Township police, a Lawrence Township Emergency Medical Service ambulance crew, Capital Health System paramedics, and volunteer firefighters from Lawrenceville, Lawrence Road and Slackwood fire companies.

Two of the three southbound lanes were closed for a couple hours because of the accident, resulting in a traffic backup in the area.

Update, Jan. 1, 2012: Following notification of next of kin, State Police identified the driver who was killed as 27-year-old Hamilton Township resident Giovanni Dominguez, according to a report published by The Times of Trenton.
