Door Shattered in Pre-Dawn Burglary at Radio Shack

A break-in at the Radio Shack electronics store at Lawrence Shopping Center is under investigation by Lawrence Township police, who impounded a "suspicious" vehicle that was found near the crime scene early Monday morning.

Lawrence Township police are investigating a burglary that took place early this morning, Monday, Nov. 21, at the Radio Shack electronics store at the Lawrence Shopping Center.

A suspicious vehicle that was found at the scene was impounded by officers as part of their investigation, Lt. Chares Edgar, police department spokesman, confirmed.

Edgar said it was 3:43 a.m. when police were notified that a “glass break” burglar alarm had been activated at the Radio Shack in the shopping center in the 2400 block of Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1).

When officers arrived, they found that much of the glass had been shattered away from the store’s front door, Edgar said.

He said officers searched the store but found no one. A larger search of the area surrounding the shopping center was also conducted but no suspects were located.

Officers are investigating whether the burglar/burglars were scared off by a newspaper deliveryman dropping off papers at the bagel shop next to the Radio Shack, Edgar said.

A Dodge Caravan minivan found near the Radio Shack was impounded because it may be connected to the break-in, he said, noting that police are investigating who owns the vehicle.

Store management was in the process of doing an inventory to determine exactly what – if anything – was stolen, Edgar said.
