Collision Causes Vehicle to Flip on Franklin Corner Rd.

Only minor injuries were reported in the Tuesday night crash that closed a section of Franklin Corner Road near Route 206 for about 45 minutes, according to Lawrence Township police.

A Lawrence Township man suffered only minor injuries when the sport utility vehicle he was driving flipped onto its side after it was struck by another vehicle this evening (Tuesday, Oct. 4).

The accident, reported to police at 8:57 p.m., occurred on Franklin Corner Road near Route 206 (Lawrence Road).

Sean Kelly, a 52-year-old township resident, was driving eastbound on Franklin Corner Road when the rear passenger’s side of his 2003 Mercury Mountaineer was struck by a 2003 Ford Taurus that was attempting to make a left turn onto Franklin Corner Road from the jughandle exit from Route 206 North, according to Lawrence Township Police Sgt. Tim Drew.

The Mountaineer flipped and came to rest on its passenger’s side. A bystander helped Kelly from the wreckage prior to the arrival of emergency responders, Drew said. He said Kelly was transported by a Lawrence Township ambulance crew to the emergency department at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton to be checked out as a precaution.

The driver of the Taurus – Kevin Baggett, 21, of Burlington – was not hurt, Drew said. He said Baggett was going to be issued a traffic ticket for causing the accident.

Volunteer firefighters from the Lawrenceville, Lawrence Road and Slackwood fire companies responded to the crash and helped contain automotive fluids that spilled from the wrecked Mountaineer.

The section of Franklin Corner Road where the accident occurred was closed to traffic for about 45 minutes.
