Additional Burglary Charges Filed Against Strycharz

Mark Strycharz, a 28-year-old Lawrence Township man who was initially arrested on Feb. 8 for alleged heroin possession, now is accused of having committed five residential burglaries in Lawrence since November.

Lawrence Township police last week filed additional burglary and theft charges against Mark Strycharz, alleging the 28-year-old township man broke into a house on Putnam Avenue in November and a home on Drexel Avenue in January, Lt. Charles Edgar, a police department spokesman, confirmed.

Strycharz, a resident of Michigan Avenue in Lawrence, was and was that took place on on Dec. 3, on Jan. 24, and on Feb. 3.

In the Putnam Avenue break-in, a 64-year-old resident returned home to find that a basement window had been forced open and that more than $7,000 worth of jewelry and cash had been stolen from her bedroom earlier that day.

Similarly, in the Drexel Avenue burglary, a 32-year-old resident returned home to find that his residence had been entered and several thousand dollars worth of property, including jewelry and a laptop computer, had been stolen.

Some of the items allegedly stolen by Strycharz during the burglaries have been recovered by police and returned to their owners, Edgar said.

He said Strycharz remains in custody at the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell Township and detectives are continuing to look at other unsolved burglaries in the township to see if Strycharz can be connected to them.
