Lawrenceville CEO Wins NJBIZ Corporate Citizen of the Year Award

NJBIZ Corporate Citizen of the Year Award Goes to Local Pest Control Owner

When He’s Not Killing Bugs, Giving Back & Raising Awareness for a Multitude of Charities Is What Drives Local Business Owner Phil Cooper, of Cooper Pest Solutions & BedBug Central

Lawrenceville, NJ – December 13, 2013 – Phil Cooper, CEO of Cooper Pest Solutions & BedBug Central in Lawrenceville, NJ was awarded theCorporate Citizen of the Year award by NJBIZ. Cooper was among 15 nominees in the Corporate Citizen of the Year category, which was then narrowed down to six finalists. The business of the year program celebrates New Jersey’s most dynamic businesses and business leaders who share a commitment to professional excellence, business growth and community. Cooper was judged based on his involvement in the community, the organizations and affiliations he is a part of, how he’s helped make a difference in New Jersey region and how he demonstrates his commitment to his employees.

“As corporate leaders there comes great responsibility to be great corporate citizens; tirelessly promoting diversity, helping those in need and raising awareness for civic, charitable and health causes,” says Cooper.

Since an early age Cooper was always taught about the importance of charitable giving by his parents. Something he and his wife made sure to instill in their two children as well. Once taking over the family business in 1991, Cooper made it a priority to compile a diverse staff that was as focused on giving back to the community as he was. While Cooper was always an avid supporter of the National MS Society, he also makes sure to support his staff and the variety of other charities they are champions for as well.

“Giving back has been engrained in me from an early age and it is something I’ve taken great pride in being able to accomplish through the years,” says Cooper. “I am humbled and honored to win this award.  There’s so many other people out in the community doing so much good, which makes this honor all that more special to me.”

In the summer of 2012, Cooper set out on a journey that would change his life forever. He rode as part of the Bike the US for MS team from Yorktown, VA to San Francisco, CA raising $50,000 riding 3,780 miles through nine states. Cooper developedPhilAcrossAmerica.com, which served as an additional fundraising outlet, a place to engage supporters, a channel to blog about his journey and much more!

He was so successful in his efforts to bring awareness and crucially needed funds to the National MS Society with his ride in 2012 that he decided to do it again in 2013. This time Cooper would set out to be the champion for five local and national charities in what was dubbed “Phil’s Summer of Cycling 2013.” Riding locally in the Anchor House Ride for Runaways, MS150 City to Shore, American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure & the 2013 LIVESTRONG Challenge Philly, Cooper also hooked up with the last leg of the Bike the US for MS ride from Montana to Seattle, WA.

Cooper also uses his pest control background to help donate free bed bug services to those in need during the holiday season. The charitable program “Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays,” was developed by BedBug Central and has donated over $500,000 to those in need since its inception in 2009.

Cooper is humbled by this win and takes great pride in the recognition of his efforts. He’s looking forward to the future of his philanthropic efforts, which will have him guest bartending for charity between February 20 – March 10 at select locations in Bucks County, Northeast Philadelphia and New Jersey. Please visitwww.philacrossamerica.com/guest-bartending/ for dates, locations and times.

“When all is said and done this award is not the culmination of my efforts, but marks the beginning of my further commitment to being the best that I can be as a great corporate citizen,” says Cooper.
