OPINION: Lawrence Ledger Prints Results of Public Hearing Before Public Hearing

The Lawrence Ledger printed that the Lawrence Township Town Council gave final approval for a zoning change, before the public hearing or vote on it even occurred tonight.

This zoning change allows for detox facilities to be put in a tiny portion of Lawrence Township, rather than to spread these facilities fairly across the entire township the same way the property taxes are.

But according to the Lawrence Ledger, the results were a foregone conclusion that no one could affect: Lawrence Township had given final approval, even before the public hearing was held, according to the Lawrence Ledger.

Why bother going through the farce of a public hearing when the results of what you were going to do were already published?!

Very disappointed in the government of Lawrence Township tonight.  Holding the first public hearing about this after you've already made the decision (and published it!) is a cruel farce to the citizens you are meant to serve.
