Obituary: William George Sherwood Farrington, 69

Born and raised in Lawrence Township, he worked as a music teacher for 35 years in the Hillsborough Township school system.

 

William George Sherwood Farrington, 69, passed away on Sunday, July 22.

Born and raised in Lawrence Township, he was an area resident all his life.

Mr. Farrington graduated from Trenton Central High School and earned a BA and MA from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) in music education and composition. He traveled to Romania for a TSC music tour in 1970. He pursued further graduate education at the University of Wyoming.

Mr. Farrington worked at Thiokol Corp. in Trenton, and then volunteered for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He served proudly as a member of the 1st Army Band.

He was an instrumental music educator for 35 years in the Hillsborough Township school system. He coordinated and taught in the Hillsborough Township Summer Music Program for many years.

Throughout his life, he was a member of many bands. He had his own bands that performed locally in the early 1970's, and most recently was affiliated with The Lawrence Community Concert Band and Lawrenceville Brass. He was an accomplished musician on many instruments, including the trumpet, clarinet and saxophone.

He was a member of the Ewing Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed music, cars, motorcycles, nature and travel. He had a close relationship with his nephews and nieces.

Mr. Farrington was predeceased by his parents, Fred DeWilton and Alice Jane Farrington. He is survived by his fiancé and partner Beth Perrine; his brother and sister-in-law Arthur D. and Sandra Farrington of McLean, Va.; his nieces and nephews, Lori Farrington, Ty Farrington, Paige Farrington-Himes and Scott Farrington; 16 great nieces and nephews; two great-great nieces; and many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m. at Wilson Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Rd., Pennington, with the Rev. William McQuoid officiating.

There will be a family visitation time from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Titusville Methodist Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice.
