Obituary: Sophie M. Hetzel, 89

Sophie M. Hetzel passed away Sunday, Sept. 30,  at her home in Wood River Village, Bensalem, Pa., surrounded by her loving children and caring aide, Felecia. She was 89.

Born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y., she had been a longtime resident of Lawrence Township, N.J., before moving to Bensalem in 2002.

She moved to New Jersey when “her Freddy,” who was treasurer of Dow Jones and Company, was transferred there.

She worked briefly for Heinemann Electric Company but most enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and “Mema” to her grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and was particularly proud of her granddaughters and their accomplishments.

hSe was the beloved wife of the late Frederick J. Hetzel; devoted mother of Frederick Hetzel of Lawrence, Patricia Cohen and her husband Jeffrey of Langhorne, Pa., and the late Michael Hetzel. She was also the loving grandmother of Lisa and Debra Cohen.

She was predeceased by her brother Michael Casper and is survived by her brother Alex Casper, of Chicago, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service and burial will be private.
