Obituary: Phyllis Pilla McBride, 98

Phyllis Pilla McBride, 98, of Columbus, N.J., formerly of Lawrence Township, passed away quietly on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the home of her daughter.

Born on Feb. 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Candida Pilla and wife of the late John “Mac” McBride. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Anthony Pilla, Pat Pilla, Vincent Pilla, Michael Pilla and Nicholas Pilla, and her sisters, Josephine Pilla, Mary Johnson, Candida Rue and Nicole Pilla.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jack Bryden; her grandchildren, Melissa Cohen and her husband Matthew, and Kyle Bryden; her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Jacob Cohen; and sister-in-law Janey Pilla. She is also survived by nieces Theresa Gross, Candida Pilla and Kathleen Pilla, and nephews Raymond Johnson and Mark Pilla.

She was a former employee of the Lawrence Township School System and retired as a head cook after many years of service. Phyllis was a member of Lawrence Township Senior Citizens Club #1 and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post #414, Lawrence Township.

Her greatest joys were spending precious times with her family and socializing with her dear friends.

Phyllis’s family would like to thank the professional and caring Samaritan Hospice caregivers for their upmost respect and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. at The Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrence Township. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hamilton.

Friends and relatives may call on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the daily chapel at the church.
