Obituary: Leroy H. "Sox" Sylvester, 93

Funeral services for the World War II veteran and longtime Lawrence Township resident will be held on Friday.

Leroy H. "Sox" Sylvester, 93, of Lawrence Township passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, at home.

Born in Trenton he was a lifelong area resident. Sox was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from American Standard where he worked as a kiln placer and then went on to work for the State of New Jersey for ten years.

He belonged to the Lawrence Township Senior Citizens Club #1, and was a member of the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church. In his early years Sox was a pitcher in the Double-A American League. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling, bowling and bingo.

Predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret (Moore) Sylvester, his first wife Charlotte Sylvester, and his second wife Helen (Spezio) Sylvester, he is survived his nephew, Gabby Dibaczy and his wife Elaine; his niece, Debbie Evans and her husband Rich; his three great-nieces; his one great-great-nephew; and his special neighbors Bill Plank and John Gladwell.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, at 1:30 p.m., at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton.

Family and friends may call on Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home.
