Obituary: Ivan J. Karolik, 72

Funeral services were held last week for the Lawrence Township resident, who died on Jan. 31.

Ivan J. Karolik, 72, of Lawrence Township passed away Jan. 31 in Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

Born March 19, 1940 in Revuca, Slovakia, Ivan attended the Electro-Technical University in Bratislava. He moved to Germany in 1969 where he lived in Munich. In 1975 he came to the United States. He lived in Princeton, Hamilton and recently in Lawrence. Ivan became an American citizen on June 18, 1984, and finished his master degree in the USA.

Ivan's first job was with AT&T, which changed its name to Bell Laboratories, and then to Lucent Technologies. His company changed names, but Ivan didn't change, he was very diligent and hard working as a design engineer and was a member of technical staff in testing and research. He retired after 25 years.

Ivan was very knowledgeable, and had many hobbies. He enjoyed all sports, especially tennis, biking, rollerblading and ice skating. Ivan also loved walking and playing volleyball on the beach, listening to classical music, traveling and much more.

Predeceased by his parents Viktor and Hildegarda Wahlova Karolik, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jana Dicova Karolikova and Peter Dic in Slovakia; his beautiful 3 year old grandson, Daniel Dic; his sister, Viera Henne Karolik and her husband Thomas Henne; his nephew David Malina, his wife Emma and their daughter Stella Malina; nieces Nina Henne and her son Lovis, and Livia Henne and her daughter Clio; his long time devoted friends who were always here for him Erenc (Frank) Holonics, Detlev Kempe, Alice Bencik and her family, Olga Gladwin, and Radka Mares; as well as many other dear friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Feb. 15 under the direction of Saul Colonial Home.
