Obituary: Elizabeth "Betty" Furch, 83

Longtime Lawrence Township resident will be laid to rest on Friday.

Elizabeth Furch, 83, of Lawrence Township passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Compassionate Care, St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton.

Elizabeth was born to the late Orville and Mary Carkhuff and raised in Hopewell Borough. She was known as "Betty" and resided in Lawrence Township for more than 50 years.

Betty retired after many years with ETS and along with her husband, owned and operated "Varsity Liquors" in Princeton. She was an avid gardener, enjoying hobbies such as knitting, sewing, and playing pinochle while gathering with friends and family.

Betty was predeceased by two infant sons. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Joseph A. Furch Jr. Betty was the loving mother of three sons and three daughters and their loving spouses: Joseph (Jody) Furch III of Lawrence; James and Margaret Furch of Hamilton; Elizabeth and Richard Farletta of Lawrence; Thomas Furch of Anchorage, Alaska. Kathleen and Robert DeLorenzo of Long Beach Island; and Michele and James Hamilton of Hamilton.

She was a devoted grandmother to: Justin Furch, Stephanie Furch, Chelsea Furch, Matthew Farletta, Justine Farletta, Wendy Gomula, Jenna Delorenzo, Sara Furch, Jamie Hamilton, Kristen Hamilton and seven beautiful great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by six siblings and their spouses: Orville and Bettysue Carkhuff, Wilma Radvany, Kathleen McBurney, George and Roxanne Carkhuff, Dean and Maryann Carkhuff and Maryanna Twomey, along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Friday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd, Lawrence Township, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Vincent Gartland, pastor of the Church of St. Ann officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Hopewell.

Visitation for Betty will be held on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
