Obituary: Donald N. Nelson, 77

A resident of East Windsor for 30 years before moving to Lawrence Township six year's ago, his funeral will take place on Saturday, June 23.

Donald N. Nelson, 77, of Lawrence Township and Bonita Springs, Fla., died peacefully on Monday, June 18, at Fox Chase Cancer Center surrounded by his entire loving family.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a resident of East Windsor for 30 years before moving to Lawrence six years ago.

Donald was a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School and Pace University. He served his country and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was employed as a banker with Brown Brothers Harriman & Co in New York City for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1996.

Donald was an ice hockey enthusiast his entire life and was an avid New York Rangers fan. His dedication to the sport led him to become a founding member of the East Windsor P.A.L. Ice Hockey League back in the early 1970’s.

Son of the late Clarence and Florence Newman Nelson, he is survived by his loving wife, Yolande Letarte Nelson; his daughter, Michele Heinz and her husband Karl; his four sons, John Nelson and his wife Charlene, Bill Nelson and his wife Jane, Peter Nelson and his wife Joy and Marc Nelson and his wife Dawn; and his 10 grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Peter, Andrew, Patrick, Ian, Brian, Molly, Emma and Luke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23, at 9:30 a.m. at the , 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrence Township. Burial will follow at a later date in the Washington Crossing National Veterans Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Friday, June 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the daily chapel at the Church of St. Ann. (Parking and entrance in the rear of the church)
