Obituary: Dennis P. Norton

Lawrence Township resident coached girls' softball, basketball and soccer.

Dennis P. V. Norton was met with the welcoming embrace of our Lord on Nov. 13.

Born in Trenton, Dennis was a longtime resident of Lawrence and a member of the Church of Saint Ann. Dennis was employed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts in Trenton for over 30 years.

He loved the Oakland Raiders, fireworks, history and sports books, country music, and attending local baseball games. Dennis was a coach of girls’ softball, basketball and soccer teams in Lawrence and Princeton since 1999.

Predeceased by his parents, Patricia Smith and John Norton, father-in-law Karl von Vorys, and aunt Sr. Regina Smith, he is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Beverly; his blueberry-pie-loving daughter Brigid, his glitter-loving daughter Grettie, and his Disney-movie-loving daughter Colleenie; sister and brother-in-law Jeanie and Mike Sowinski; mother-in-law Barbara von Vorys; sister-in-law and husband Julie and Rick Paisley; brother-in-law and wife Eric and Joni von Vorys; sister-in-law Natalie Elhardt; brother-in-law and wife Colin and Laura Vonvorys; sister-in-law and husband Carla and Patrick McGuire; sister-in-law Kristie Vorys; sister-in-law and husband Christine and Dr. Ausim Azizi; numerous nieces and nephews; cousin and husband Anne Marie and Mick Shanklin, their children Michael, Brian, and Jennifer, and families; and aunt and uncle Eileen and John Schedler and their children and families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at the , 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrence Township. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd., Lawrence Township.

To celebrate the life of their father instead of mourning his passing, Dennis’s daughters request that those attending the Mass of Christian Burial not feel obligated to wear black.­ In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Dennis’s memory to the von Vorys-Norton Education Fund, c/o First Choice Bank, 669 Whitehead Rd., Lawrence Township, N.J. ­08648.
