Obituary: Angelo Carnevale, 91

Funeral services for the longtime Lawrence Township resident will take place Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Angelo Carnevale of Lawrence Township died at his home peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, surrounded by over 40 family members.

Born Dec. 22, 1920, and raised in Pettoranello, Italy, he moved his family to Lawrence in 1970 at the age of 50 to start a new life. He was a proud man and a true Patriarch as he worked three jobs in order to support his family.

He served in the Italian Army during World War II and was taken as a POW in Greece in 1943.

Angelo enjoyed working in his bountiful garden, producing an abundant assortment of vegetables, which he shared with his family and neighbors. He made his red wine every October, a ritual which he truly enjoyed. One of his weekend enjoyments was watching the soccer matches on the Italian channel.

He retired in 1987 after a long career on the maintenance force at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. In addition to his full time job, he worked evenings with the cleaning force at ETS and cut grass on the weekends. A true immigrant, he worked hard and provided for his family, who he loved so dearly, and nothing made him happier than spending time with his entire family, no matter what the occasion.
