Longtime Lawrence Township Teacher, James Effinger, Dies

He taught fifth grade for 32 years.

James R. Efinger, 82, died on Oct. 8, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, according to Legacy.com

Effinger was born on Dec. 29, 1930, the son of Joseph and Zoe Dunn Efinger and he married the former Myra Hayes in 1959. The couple moved to Middlesex in 1979.

After earning his bachelor's degree in education from Trenton State College, he taught fifth grade in the Lawrence Township School District for 32 years, according to Legacy.com. He retired in 1994. Effinger was also a Boy Scout Master, a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church in Middlesex.

According to Legacy.com, Effinger is survived by his wife, Myra Hayes Efinger; children George (Carrie) Efinger of Somerset, Timothy (Sandra) Efinger of Lititz, Pa., Anne (Darren) Romano of Raritan; sister, Joan Efinger and uncle, James V. Efinger both of Florida, 12 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
