Lawrence High Media Center Features New Laptops, Shelving, Juice Bar

On Wednesday evening Nov. 13, Lawrence Township School officials held a ribbon cutting ceremon  for the new and improved Media Center at Lawrence High School, funded by a $50,000 grant from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation.

This is the first phase of a renovation of the library. Phase II is planned for next summer.

Phase 1 included lowering the shelves, buying 32 Chromebook laptop computers, installing a "juice bar" charging station and reupholstering all of the soft seating, Lawrence High School Library Media Specialist Carina Gonzalez said.

"It's much brighter," Gonzalez said. "One student walked in and said 'Wow, it doesn't look like a tomb.' It's more open, a lot of people have used that term. "

The work on Phase 1 was completed over the summer and students have been using the renovated space since school opened.

According to statistics from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation, use of the new space increased 55 percent when comparing usage from September of 2012 to September of 2013.
