Blue Heron Cleared for Takeoff in Mercer County

The majestic bird got its wing caught in fishing line and was found dangling from a tree near the county park's marina on Oct. 17.

A great blue heron that was rehabilitated at the Mercer County Wildlife Center after being injured is released back into its natural habitat at Mercer County Park in West Windsor on Tuesday.

The majestic bird got its wing caught in fishing line and was found dangling from a tree near the county park’s marina on Oct. 17. It was freed, but wasn’t able to fly due to its injuries and had to be rescued from Lake Mercer by Park Ranger Brandon Nitschmann and two park visitors. The heron was then taken to the Wildlife Center in Hopewell Township for treatment.
