United Way of Greater Mercer County Latino Vision Council to host 9th Annual Leadership Conference in partnership with Hispanics Inspiring Students' Performance and Achievement

Lawrenceville, NJ- United Way of Greater Mercer County Latino Vision Council (LVC) and Hispanics Inspiring Students' Performance and Achievement (HISPA), with the support of Educational Testing Service, will host the 9th Annual Leadership Conference on Friday, April 19, 2013, at the ETS Campus in Conant Hall in Princeton, NJ. The conference theme is “Reconfiguring Yourself to be a Smart Leader 4 All.” The keynote speaker will be Stephen Lazer, Vice President Student & Teacher Programs at ETS followed by Francisco Duran, Superintendent Trenton Public Schools serving as the keynote responder.

We are excited to once again partner with LVC to provide a unique professional development opportunity to our HISPA Role Models," said Ivonne Diaz-Claisse, President of HISPA.  Ana I. Berdecía, Chair of the Latino Vision Council, added: "It is wonderful when two organizations come together synergistically with a shared vision to empower leaders and support efforts that help develop young leaders and provide the skill development for leaders from all walks of life. LVC is a network of leaders that are committed to working together to build culturally and linguistically responsive communities."

Following the keynote, the conference will offer three tracks: The Smart Leader, The Smart Communicator, and The Smart Mentor. Each track will provide participants insights and strategies to become a Smart Leader in a tough economy with technological developments and quickly changing demographics.  "Working with businesses and organizations to build strong alliances in our community will enable us to build strong networks for growth and identify and develop sustainable leaders for the long term,” said, Ely Mateo, Assistant Vice President of Resource Investment, United Way of Greater Mercer County.

The conference will serve as a conduit for a dialogue about the importance of having the skills and the right leadership styles to compete in global and local economies, while helping to raise funds for youth development through the Trenton High School FUTURO Mentoring Program, the HISPA Role Model Program, and the Latino Vision Council’s Leadership Institute. LVC and HISPA are grateful to conference sponsors: ETS, PNC Bank, and New Futuro.
