Hawaiian Music - Bill Wynne and HAPA

Bill Wynne’s music transports audiences to an island paradise. For 40 years, he has shared the music and culture of Hawaii with audiences from Atlantic City, to Carnegie Hall, to venues throughout Hawaii. Next week, his childhood hometown of Blackwood, NJ will be treated to his aloha spirit when he opens for the renown Hawaiian music troupe, HAPA, in An Evening with HAPA. Best known and awarded for his exceptional skill in the traditional Hawaiian art of falsetto singing, Wynne – a longtime Ewing, NJ resident – also plays the ukulele, slack key guitar, and steel guitar.
HAPA, named the most successful Hawaiian music troupe in recent history by the New York Times, burst onto the Hawaiian music scene in 1993, distinguishing themselves by combining soft pop with the slack key guitar and soaring melodies sung in the native island language. Comprised of Barry Flanagan, Ron Kuala`au, and hula dancer Heali`i Stanley, the group’s majestic tones of oli (chant) and mele (song), along with the elegant movements of the sacred hula and the exhilarating and innovative sounds of virtuoso slack key guitar are a feast for the eyes, ears, and soul.
