Community Corner

ANNUAL INTERFAITH COMMUNTIY THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION

This year, we are reflecting on the theme of "Thankfulness for the bounties of the Earth".  We are seeking to be informal and participatory, and will feature worship elements from a variety of traditions. The main feature of the service will consist of three stories about thankfulness, stewardship, and freedom, told by storytellers of diverse traditions.  The stories will be interwoven with choral music by joint choirs of participating communities.  Attendees will be given cards to write a reflection about their personal thanksgiving, and for those who are moved, we will have a time to share those reflections verbally with the gathered.  The service will last no longer than one hour.

Another part of our worship service will consist of a slide show that will feature art made by our children or our adults!  The simple theme we'd ask the artist  is to respond to:  "Expressions of thanks and gratitude for the bounties of the earth...! It is recommended that the artists include 1 "word" in their creation expressing the theme.  Strong color is encouraged - especially if they are using magic markers,  paint, or multi-media.  Submit the art work by November 25th.  Please call Tahirih Smith to pick up the art work at [609] 731-1818.

A collection of dry goods and cans will be donated to the Lawrence Neighborhood Service Center, for their food pantry. They are in desperate need of food for the pantry at this time of the year

For those that would like to offer monetary contributions instead of dry goods, please know that the receipts will be donated this year to Sustainable Lawrence, to help fund proposed Organic Waste Recycling program for all of Lawrence residents.

Adath Israel has kindly offered to provide the refreshments which will meet Kosher  requirements.

This year the Baha'is of Lawrence Township is hosting the  Annual Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Celebration.  If you have any question or looking for more information regarding the service or activities, please contact Tahirih Smith at [609] 731-1818 or send her an email to tahiri.smith@gmail.com.
