Water Company Makes Improvements in Lawrence

Aqua New Jersey has replaced 1,400 feet of water main and two fire hydrants to improve customer service and firefighting water flow along three streets in Lawrence Township.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Aqua New Jersey.

Aqua New Jersey Inc.’s Central Division (Aqua) will complete a two-month $130,000 project this week in Lawrenceville that has replaced 1,400 feet of 2-inch cast iron main with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe along Grandview, Edgewood and Maple avenues.

In addition to the new main, Aqua replaced two old fire hydrants and the customer service lines up to the curb. The new main will provide increased reliability and provide improved flow throughout the area, including that used for firefighting.

While the actual main installation, which began in September, will be completed this week, final road restoration will be completed in the spring of 2012.

“The project is part of Aqua New Jersey’s continued efforts to replace the aging distribution system that delivers water to our customers,” said Aqua’s Operations Manager John Hildabrant.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indicates a 20-year capital investment of $334.8 billion is needed for public water system repairs and replacement of transmission pipes, storage and treatment equipment, and other projects required to protect public health.

Aqua’s 2011 capital program is consistent with the types of improvements the EPA says are necessary for the nation’s public water systems.

Aqua New Jersey’s Central Division serves a population of 42,000 in Burlington, Mercer and Monmouth Counties. Overall, the company serves approximately 150,000 residents in seven counties throughout New Jersey.
