Threat of Rain Cancels Lawrence Twp. Community Day

With rain forecast for today and a high temperature of only 53 expected, Community Day 2012 has been cancelled. But a paper shredding and covered electronics disposal event will still take place today (Oct. 7), rain or shine.

As a result of the rain forecast for today (Sunday, Oct. 7), Lawrence Township Community Day has been cancelled for 2012, township recreation department Superintendent Steve Groeger confirmed.

There is no rain date.

Today’s paper shredding and covered electronics disposal event sponsored by the township public works department will still take place, rain or shine, Groeger said.

That will happen from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Bergen Street parking lot of Village Park.

Township residents can bring up to 100 pounds of paper for shredding; no cardboard or x-rays will be accepted. Also being accepted for disposal will be old tires (rims must be removed; no rims will be accepted) and covered electronics such as televisions, computers, VCRs, and DVD players.

According to the National Weather Service, there is an 80 percent chance of rain today, with the day’s high temperature expected to only reach about 53 degrees.

An annual event since 1992, Community Day was cancelled at least once before due to rain, Groeger recalled.
