Trenton Vice to Merge With County Prosecutor's Office by Early Next Week

A merger of the Trenton Police Department Vice Unit into the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office will be complete by the end of the week or the beginning of next week, nj.com reports.

According to the report, the merger is taking place because Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph Bocchini and Trenton Police Director Ralph Rivera Jr. believe that while drug deals may take place in the city, intelligence leads them to believe the dealers may live outside Trenton.

Detectives currently in Trenton's Vice Unit will become part of Mercer County's Special Investigations Unit, according to the report. They will remain employees of the police department, but will answer to the county prosecutor and work countywide, according to the report.

The merger is expected to at least double the number of detectives Trenton currently has and offset the impact of mass layoffs a couple years ago, according to the report.
