Police Log: Stolen Vehicle, Burglary, Shoplifting and More

The following incidents were reported by Lawrence Police between April 9 and April 16.

 

On Tuesday, April 9 at 7:52 p.m., a 17-year-old female from Princeton and a 17 year old female from Plainsboro were arrested and charged with shoplifting after police say they tried to steal two Bob Marley t-shirts valued at $20.50 each by stuffing them into their handbags. The girls were turned over to a family member. 

On Wednesday, April 10 at 11:52 a.m., a burglary was reported at Shemin Nurseries on Bakers Basin Road. Sometime between April 8 at 11:30 p.m. and April 10 at 11:50 a.m., an unknown person entered the building by prying up the metal siding. Nothing was reported stolen. The incident is being investigated by Det. William Chester and Officer Mark Harmon.

On Wednesday, April 10 at 8:42 p.m., a report of shoplifting at J.C. Penney. A 17-year-old female and a 16-year-old female, both from Trenton, allegedly stole $26 and $66 worth of clothing from the department store and hid the items in their purses. They were stopped on the way out of the store and later released to family members. 

On Wednesday, April 10 at 10:47 p.m., Ali Muwwakil, 45, of Trenton was charged with motor vehicle theft after a woman said they were at the Sleep-e-Hollow Motel and then, while she was in the bathroom, he took her 2002 Subaru Legacy and left. She told police that she spent three hours trying to contact him, but had no luck. Muwwakil eventually returned to the hotel, where he was arrested. Muwwakil also had outstanding warrants was committed to county jail.

On Friday, April 12, patrols responded to a noise complaint in the 100 block of Franklin Corner Road. Patrols arrived, knocked on the door and saw marijuana under 50 grams, along with drug paraphernalia. Three people were taken into custody. Chelsie Fenichel, 21, of Franklin Corner Road, Steven Corletto, 22, of Kendall Park and Tarryl Feichel, 24, of Kendall Park were charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were each released on a court summons. 

On Friday, April 12, at 3:12 p.m., Yeison Barrera, 28, of Trenton was charged with shoplifting from Macy's after police say she stole $229 worth of clothing from Macy's by trying to conceal the items in her shopping bag and leave the store. She was released on a summons. 

On Saturday, April 13, at 1:30 a.m., Officer Lee saw a vehicle on Brunswick Pike at White Hen Road that hit the median. Officer Lee stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver, Juan Arevalo, 55, of Munfordville, Ky., was intoxicated. Arevalo was charged with driving under the influence and four additional motor vehicle summons.  

On Sunday, April 14 at 4:36 a.m., police received a report of an unresponsive female on Lawrence Square Blvd. When Off. Larkin arrived, he found Judith Belisle, 21, of Rickard Court, Lawrence behind the wheel of a running vehicle. An investigation determined that Beisle was driving under the influence. She was also charged with two additional motor vehicle violations. 

On Tuesday, April 16 at 16:59, Jonathan Johnson, 22, of Trenton was stopped on Route 1 for failure to keep right. Sgt. Drew detected an odor of marijuana and a subsequent invitation resulted in Johnson being charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, plus two motor vehicle violations. He was released on a summons.
