Nature Center to Host Fairy/Gnome House-Building Event

Attendees at the Lawrence Nature Center's family picnic on Sunday, Sept. 9, will be invited to use their imaginations and natural materials to construct fairy/gnome houses.

The will host a family picnic and fairy/gnome house festival from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, at the center at 481 Drexel Ave., Lawrence Township.

The Nature Center offers this explanation of the event:

Attention boys, girls and adults: Bring your picnic basket and enjoy a meal with your family and friends! Then use your imaginations, creativity and love of nature. We will follow the "rules of the woods" while constructing fairy/gnome houses using only non-living, natural materials.

Enjoy a spirited evening of fun, adventure and fantasy that may change the way you view the natural world by focusing on the dwellings of LNC’s tiniest, most seldom-seen residents! Work in groups or work individually to build fairy or gnome houses.

Some assorted natural plant materials will be provided, and you are welcome to bring natural materials you have collected to share with other house makers. Suggested building materials include twigs, pine cones, acorns, pebbles, seashells, leaves, ferns, fruit – all non-living materials from nature. The finale will be a tour of all the created fairy homes. Prizes will be awarded for your creative work.
