Mercer County 4-H Fair Accepting Entries From the Public

Mercer County 4-H is encouraging members of the general public to participate in the 95th annual 4-H Fair, to be held at the Howell Living History Farm in Hopewell Township on Aug. 3-4.

There are several “Open Divisions” at the fair, meaning residents don’t have to be a member of the 4-H to participate and earn the coveted blue ribbon, county officials said in an announcement issued on Monday.

Residents may enter all categories, including arts and crafts, photography, foods, gardening, clothing and woodworking, among others, under the Open Division format. The fair exhibit book is available here.

The deadline for entering projects into the fair is Aug. 2, from 4-8 p.m. at Howell Living History Farm.

The theme for this year’s fair is “4-H Youth at Work: Leading us into the Future.” It will celebrate 4-H’s association with Mercer County and Howell Farm with family-friendly activities, including arts and crafts, animal shows and farm tours.

The fair provides an opportunity for youths involved in 4-H, a youth development program run by Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the chance to showcase the projects they’ve put together over the past year, officials said.

4-H allows Mercer County to take advantage of research-based, hands-on learning experiences.

The  fair’s Opening Ceremony will be held Aug. 3 at 1 p.m., and the fair runs from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Aug. 3, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Aug. 4.

Admission and parking are free.

Howell Farm is part of the Mercer County Park Commission, and is located on Valley Road, just off Route 29, two miles south of Lambertville. Those using a GPS or directions found online should use 70 Woodens Lane, Lambertville, as the destination address.

The farm is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.
