Lawrence Township Native Jon Stewart Nominated For Emmy Award

Lawrence Township native Jon Stewart's “The Daily Show” was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in the variety show category on Thursday.

Stewart's show was nominated alongside Comedy Central companion “The Colbert Report," starring Montclair native Steven Colbert; HBO's “Real Time With Bill Maher”; ABC's “Jimmy Kimmel Live”; NBC's “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”; and NBC's “Saturday Night Live.”

Stewart, whose real name is Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, played the French horn while a member of the band at Lawrence High School, according to about.com.

He graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1984. He began hosting “The Daily Show” in 1999 following the departure of previous host Craig Killborn.

According to imdb.com, Stewart won Primetime Emmy Awards for “The Daily Show” in 2001, and every year from 2003-12. He's been nominated every year since 2001, and was nominated for his work on “The Colbert Report” every year since 2006.

He's also won PGA, Television Critics Association and Writers Guild of America awards, and been nominated for Daytime Emmy, Teens' Choice, People's Choice, American Comedy, Astra and BAFTA awards.

He is currently on a three-month hiatus from his show while he is directing a film. John Oliver has been hosting the show in his place.
