JCP&L Conducting 'Vegetation Management' Work

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) is conducting vegetation management work throughout the month of June in the Mercer County municipalities of East Windsor, Hightstown, Hopewell Township, Lawrence, and Robbinsville. The work is being performed by certified forestry contractor Nelson Tree Service.

The vegetation management work is a part of JCP&L’s program to improve service reliability throughout its 13 county service area.

Trees are a leading cause of power outages and when trees and power lines touch it can create a dangerous condition. To help maintain safe and reliable electric service, JCP&L regularly trims trees and conducts vegetation management work along its electric distribution lines on a four-year cycle.

The company’s certified forestry experts inspect vegetation near the lines to ensure trees are pruned in a manner that preserves the health
of the tree, while also maintaining safety near electric facilities. In some cases trees that present a danger or are diseased may also be removed.

JCP&L works with municipalities to inform them of vegetation management schedules. Customers living in areas along company right-of-ways are also notified prior to work being done.
