Flashback: Hurricane Floyd Floods Lawrence in 1999

Do you remember Hurricane Floyd, which in September 1999 caused significant flooding in Lawrence Township?

With Hurricane Irene's effects now being felt in Lawrence Township and the rest of New Jersey, it's not surprising many Lawrence Township emergency responders are recalling Hurricane Floyd, which in September 1999 caused significant flooding to parts of the township.

On Sept. 16, 1999, Lawrence Township volunteer firefighters, rescuers from the Lawrence Township Volunteer First Aid Squad, and police used boats to rescue several occupants from the flooded Sleep-E-Hollow motel on Brunswick Pike (Route 1).

The next morning, several more people were rescued by boat from Mount's Motel, also on Route 1, while several animals - including llamas and goats - were rescued from a business on Bakers Basin Road.
