Flash Flood Warning in Effect as Remants of Tropical Storm Approach

The remnants of the season's first storm, Tropical Storm Andrea, is expected to dump heavy rains on the state over the weekend, and the National Weather Service issued the first warning related to this storm for the region Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Mercer County on Thursday afternoon.

A flash flood watch is in effect late Thursday night through late Friday night. The remnants of the storm are expected to hit the region Friday and Saturday, and the potential for heavy rainfall exists. This could result in small stream and urban flooding.

While the outlook is only in effect regionally for about 24 hours, other parts of the state are expected to see sustained flash flooding throughout the weekend.

Tropical Storm Andrea is the first named storm since Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on parts of the state last fall. It formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday.

On Thursday afternoon, Andrea was expected to make landfall in Florida, at which point the storm's maximum sustained winds had increased to 60 miles an hour from 40 miles an hour on Wednesday.
