First Significant Snowfall of Year Expected Saturday

The National Weather Service expects 2 to 5 inches of snow to fall on the area Saturday.

After the , winter has been relatively mild thus far. But that's expected to change tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 21) as winter weather is expected to hit Lawrence Township and the surrounding area.

According to a Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), Mercer County residents should expect a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain beginning about 1 a.m. Saturday.

The winter weather is predicted to last about 12 hours, coming to an end early Saturday afternoon.

Snowfall amounts are predicted to be in the range of 2 to 5 inches, according to NWS estimates. There also expected to be a blanket of ice on roads and sidewalks.

“Snow will overspread the region after midnight, falling with varying intensity into Saturday morning. The snow will gradually change to sleet and freezing rain, then all rain as temperatures get just above the freezing mark,” the weather service said in its advisory.

Motorists are urged to take caution driving in the snow, especially with the sleet and ice mix that's expected.

Saturday's forecast are calls for temperatures to hit a high near 36 and a low around 27. Sunday calls for highs in the upper 30s.

Temperatures are expected to warm up on Monday with a rise to the low 50s, with the forecast also calling for rain.
