'Equipment Failure' Blamed for Brief Power Outage

A power outage that affected parts of Lawrence Township and Ewing Township this afternoon (Tuesday, Oct. 4) was due to a minor fire caused by “equipment failure,” a spokeswoman for Public Service Electric & Gas said.

The outage occurred about 1:35 p.m. About 1,000 customers lost power for about 20 minutes before service was restored, according to PSE&G’s Annette Hicks.

“A pole caught on fire due to equipment failure,” Hicks said.

Hicks said she did not know the exact location of the pole. Fire departments in Lawrence and Ewing said they were not notified of any pole fires in their jurisdictions.
