A Tree Grows in Lawrence

Lawrence Township planted a tree at Slackwood, Tuesday.

Lawrence Township continued its celebration of Arbor Day with a tree planting on Tuesday, May 14 at Slackwood Elementary School. 

The Township has recognized Arbor Day with tree planting activities every year since 1996 and this year's was planted by the Lawrence Township Public Works Department to provide a spring bloom and summer shade to the school grounds.

On behalf of the Lawrence Township Council, Councilman Michael Powers read a Proclamation recognizing Arbor Day and presented it to the Slackwood School.

The tree selected for the planting is Serviceberry, which are native to the area and are well suited to residential streets and parks.

The Lawrence Township Shade Tree Advisory Committee was created by the Township Council to provide advice on street tree matters.
